One album to check out is called Roots Music for the 21st Century (Severn Records, 0010). On it is a cast of bands and musicians representing the best of new-wave soul. The first track, by Benjie Porecki, is slopped in Hammond B-3 grooves and sacred jazz beats that will dig under your skin. Other tracks like No. 5, by Automatic Slim, sound based in both blues and modern groove music. Check it out.
